Things I’ve been meaning to do:
- Sun Ra fan art
- Samus in the style of Warhol’s Monroe prints
- A landscape inspired by a Birdy Nam Nam song
- Apparently nothing that isn’t fan art or anything that’s actually getting done
YOU MADE ME DO THIS
Cheated and used transparency as well but there’s no way I’m going to make that palette work for Sonic this late.
Also let it be known that the first thing I’ve ever drawn with a tablet was this awful fuckin’ thing. I’ll get around to the others soon, too.
Send me a character and number gosh~!
I’ve been looking for this, please send something my way!
Bored and looking through some finished work and was wondering why the lady knight I had done a while back always felt “mushy” to me, for lack of a better term, and I think it’s because I associate so much of pixel art with black highlighting lots of non-black colors, which I had none of – black doesn’t show up at all, the darkest color being the blue/purple which you can see on the right side of the shield. So, I slapped a 1px and 2px thickness black border around her and, yeah, wow. It just makes it pop a little bit more, and I didn’t expect it to be so drastic. The 2px is a bit excessive since it starts to veer into “cut out from a background” territory, but the 1px border really draws in where the form gets a little nebulous in the lighter spectrum, which is to say the middle of the shield, her hair, and to a lesser extent her inner arm. Not to say that I don’t want to fool around with thicker lines, but yeah.
And that’s just the lazy version! I didn’t even touch the interior where there would more naturally be some darker lines, which I might give a shot, and will definitely be more conscious of in other pieces. I remember being similarly shocked tossing a black border on a tiny little tree I did a long while back, so maybe I should have started doing this a long time ago. I’m always so hesitant to work pure black into things because I’ve always been told it’s kind of a no-no and to just use a very dark version of something already on your palette, but I feel it definitely captures The Look, even if it is kind of a shortcut.
Oh well. Things to think about. At the very least, I needed an icon change anyway.
